FAQs
Absolutely. Our Lacquer Finish on top of Black Oxide will protect the product during shipping and transit.
Black Oxide paired with a oil coating provides some rust protection, but it is not a rust free plating. We believe in taking care of your tools. Tools with Black Oxide should be cleaned after each use and coated with Old Papi's Tool Lube. Customers will find Black Oxide tools easier to polish to a mirror finish vs a tool that has been plated.
We proudly produce tools that are street ready and tuned with thinner working tips. This is done to have a high performing tool on tough jobs with tight seams. We balanced the tip thickness and heat treat levels to achieve street ready capabilities on tough doors. Thinner tips can lead to chipping, especially in the modern age of hardened, reinforced FE doors with multiple wood blocks that far surpass resistance met in the real world.
Working tips may need to be cleaned up and retuned over time if chipping occurs. This is best done with a belt grinder or flap wheel, taking care to do single passes and not overheat the steel. Water can be used after each pass to keep the tool cool.
The Adz Slot on the the Tech Hammer is designed to be paired with a TSR Halligan or Chicago Adz. It has an apx width of 1.8".
The Tech Hammer is forged from a single piece of bar stock. Forgings are not like cast, and require drafted edges where the forging dies meet. Massive forces are used to hammer the steel and form both sides to shape. Parting lines will not always be perfectly even. Forging flash and draft are hand ground during the finishing stages.
The Tech Hammer features a hand ground strip along the top to remove flash. We leave parting line on top as a transitional fulcrum to help cam over the adz end when rolling.
