FAQs
Absolutely.
Black Oxide paired with a oil coating provides some rust protection, but it is not a rust free plating. We believe in taking care of your tools. Tools with Black Oxide should be cleaned after each use and coated with Old Papi's Tool Lube. Customers will find Black Oxide tools easier to polish to a mirror finish vs a tool that has been plated.
We proudly produce tools that are street ready and tuned with thinner working tips. This is done to have a high performing tool on tough jobs with tight seams. We balanced the tip thickness and heat treat levels to achieve street ready capabilities on tough doors. Thinner tips can lead to chipping, especially in the modern age of hardened, reinforced FE doors with multiple wood blocks that far surpass resistance met in the real world.
Working tips may need to be cleaned up and retuned over time if chipping occurs. This is best done with a belt grinder or flap wheel, taking care to do single passes and not overheat the steel. Water can be used after each pass to keep the tool cool. Our adz in particular has an extra 1/2" working length should it need to be retuned.
